Tai Lopez – Invest In Yourself

Pod Of The Day episode 9 – 10 – 11 — Tai Lopez

This was a tough one, as it has taken me several days to listen to this podcast and 2 additional pods also with Tai Lopez. My mind feels completely blown away. Tai has so much to say about on how to be a modern citizen in the connection economy. A real Creative Future Ninja. There is just no easy way to sum up all the stuff that Tai talks about in this 3 hour long conversation. Still I have given it a try. I’m sure I will come back to Tai many times in the near future just like I’m regularly coming back to Seth Godin. So check him out. I give you Tai Lopez.

Find the podcast on iTunes under London Real or here:
Tai Lopez – How To Become Great. Here you can also find the 2 older ones here: Live the Good Life and his TEDx talk: The Law of 33%. Or find him on iTunes or my mp3 here.

Invest in Yourself

Spend 1/3 of your time with people behind you on your journey. Your Mentees
Spend 1/3 of your time with people on the same level. Who are on the same journey. Your Allies
Spend 1/3 of your time with people 10 to 20 years ahead of you on your journey. You Mentors

You don’t make it without a coach or a mentor. This is also the hardest part to do.
How many hours did you spend Today with people 10-20 years ahead of you?

Even if you don’t have a mentor today there is another way. You can read books and listen to pods, videos and audiobooks of people who’s shared their thoughts before you. They have all done so with YOU in mind. Every single person who has ever lived on planet earth has done so for you. Many of them has left a gift for you. Read their thoughts and their mind.

Double down on your own brain 🙂

Do this to cut your learning curve. Use all their knowledge and insights to boost your own brain.
Your brain can simulate the future so that you don’t have to make all their trial and error yourself.

Start from the Top

Start from the top of needs. What can’t you do without? Air, food, sleep?
Sleep. Get more Sleep

Money is a scarcity to the brain. That is why we are so focused on getting it.

Invest in Yourself

The difference of reading 1 book a week or 10 books a week is not 10 times stronger it’s exponentially more stronger. Ideas have sex.

Engines of creativity

Engines of creativity of the olden world are:
Coffee house of the Age of Enlightenment
Parisian Salons of Modernism

The new places are #MakerSpaces, meeting & co-working spaces like #Ehive and participatory culture events like #Webcoast and #BurningMan
Invest in yourself.

Chance favours the connected mind

See Where Good Ideas Come From with Steven Johnson

Good ideas usually comes from the collision between smaller hunches. That when they collide become bigger than the sum of themselves. Even better when you combine your hunches with the hunches of other people.

Blood allies and interest allies

There are 2 types of allies.

There is Family – The Blood Allies.

Then there are those who think like you. Your Tribe. Those who share a similar interest.

Give me 300 people who think like me and want to conquer their fear and we will conquer the world – Tail Lopez

Try to find a mentor alley. Someone who sees themselves in you, as they were younger.

Be persistent

It takes 20 years to get bad health.
Don’t expect result from 20 days of training after that.
Do 1 minute training at least 3 times a day. Many short bursts are better than one long. It builds habit.

And watch out for cognitive biases. Really do!
This is perhaps the hardest part of being human.

Do it today

Do it today

Do It Today [Start a 1 day experiments]

Do something, to do something!

Start doing something today. Never tomorrow. Start an experiment. Do 1 day experiments.  Or to a maximum of 18 months. People are talking about failure and fast failure. Failure is in a way a negative word. Call everything experiments instead.

Start an experiment TODAY!

Double down on yourself
Love yourself. You are the only one who has 100% of your DNA.

Set 2 goals. Love yourself first. And also love your allies.

Be humble and also be a little cocky.

Wake Up
Kick As
Be Nice
Repeat

Lead With Reward

Always set up reminders on the reward you will get after investing in yourself. It can be pictures on the fridge to stop you from that late night snack. Or like Dan Peña says: Practice Success.

The world is not Black and White

It’s all about accuracy. Not the truth or right or wrong. There is no truth.

Challenge your own beliefs and truths. This is really hard and really rewarding.

Copy the best. They have all done their work for you. Stand on shoulders of giants!

Good artists borrow great artists steal — Picasso

Find Your Fire

Do every strength-test online you can find. Here is a list with some of them taken from the show.

Tak a piece of paper and write down between 25-50 strengths, talents, hobbies, passions, skills. Be really specific. If a skill is to wide then spilt it up.

What 5 skills of 50 best intertwine? Find your sweet-spot. Your Niche. Something you can be the best in the world at. And like Seth Godin says. This World is the part where you operate.

If you have to go on vacation from what you are doing. Never come back – Bud Williams

Double down on your core competence. Be the person you want to invest in.

Find your fire and hold on
